University of the Third Age
U3A is a nationwide network of learning groups aimed at encouraging older people to share their knowledge, skills and interests in a friendly environment. There are no exams and no homework, just regular lessons, study groups and social activities. Third Age, a term that was created in France in 1973, refers to the period in one's life following childhood learning and middle age working when one is free to explore interests and activities that please them.
There are no formal teachers - the mantra is that 'teachers learn and learners teach', it's about anyone who has an interest, skill, or knowledge that they are prepared to share with likeminded members. Our interest groups range from Local History, Film Studies and Astronomy through to Table Tennis, London Walks and Needlework. For more information take a look at our website.
